BARC Research’s annual business intelligence survey received reviews from 3,137 users of 37 BI tools. Based on the survey results, BARC created The BI Survey 16, an annual report that compares the software vendors head-to-head in 32 different categories. In this blog, see how Phocas compares with Microsoft Power BI.
Across its three peer groups, Phocas Software ranked first in 16 different categories and as a leader in 24 categories in the largest BI software review of its kind. Among the many recognizable brand leaders that Phocas outperformed were Tableau, QlikView, and IBM Cognos BI.
In this blog, we will review the head-to-head comparison between Phocas BI and Microsoft Power BI. Microsoft is one of the largest software providers in the world, and industry analysts consider Power BI to be one of the leaders. Despite Microsoft’s standing from a brand and size standpoint, Phocas outperformed Microsoft in several key performance indicators (KPIs). The following blog highlights three of the categories.
Chosen as a Standard
Phocas finished first among all products in this category, which measures how many companies choose to use it as their standard BI system. On a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the best, Phocas rated 10 among visual-discovery and self-service reporting focused products, while Power BI rated 4.7.
Once Phocas customers start to use Phocas BI software, it quickly becomes the first thing they check in the morning and the last thing they review at night. The software is intuitive for any level of BI user, and was built to make data accessible by all areas of the business. Even as users have gone through major ERP changes or upgrades, Phocas has remained a constant, serving as the foundation of data and analytics.
Ian van Haeringen, Information Systems Manager for B&R Enclosures, leaned on Phocas when the company made the decision to update its ERP.
“In an ERP system implementation, reporting is generally the last thing you do because when you ask people what they want, they generally can't define it well,” said van Haeringen. “For our new ERP system, however, we knew our sales reporting was staying the same so we planned the entire integration around Phocas.”
B&R’s sales’ reporting was consistent all the way through the installation because of a long-term commitment to Phocas.
Customer satisfaction is an aggregated measure that combines user ratings in three KPIs; ‘Product satisfaction’, ‘Vendor support’ and ‘Implementer support.’ For three years in a row, Phocas has excelled in this category, scoring 8.8 out of 10 compared with Power BI’s score of 5.2.
Phocas has a strong and growing base of loyal customers around the world, a loyalty driven by a commitment to investing in and delivering high-level of customer satisfaction from implementation to support. It’s not uncommon for our customers to tell us that Phocas is the best software they have ever implemented, or the best analytics tool they have ever used. The results of The BI Survey 16, and the previous two BARC surveys, are further evidence of our success in customer satisfaction.
Competitive Win Rate
When it comes to winning head-to-head evaluations, Phocas continues to outperform the competition. According to BARC’s BI Survey 16, “Phocas’ competitive win rate among its visual discovery-focused peers has been excellent over the past six years, proving time and again that it can hold its own against larger and better known vendors". In this category, Phocas ranked 8.8 out of 10 while Microsoft Power BI finished with 4.3.
When prospective customers experience the power of Phocas BI, including the ability to quickly and easily build dashboards, visualize data, drill down deeper into transactional details, and uncover opportunities for growth, Phocas sells itself. Even alongside Microsoft ERP solutions, Phocas makes business intelligence faster and easier.
The above KPIs are only a snapshot of the impressive results Phocas received in BARC's the BI Survey 16 report. BARC found that Phocas users “have very few complaints about the product or the level of support” they receive as they “find it both flexible and easy to use and are happy to recommend it to others.”
