The BI Survey 16 is the world’s largest survey of business intelligence software users. In 2016, BARC Research, producers of the survey, received reviews from 3,137 users of 37 different BI products. Read this blog to see how Phocas compares with QlikView.
Phocas BI was the top ranked software among its three peer groups in 16 categories and a leader in 24 categories, outperforming many of the perceived leaders in the BI software space including Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and IBM Cognos BI. Phocas also outperformed QlikView in many of the metrics.
The following is a head-to-head comparison of Phocas BI versus QlikView in three of the several key performance indicators (KPI) in which BARC ranked the two products.
This KPI is based on the frequency of problems encountered with the product. In The BI Survey 16, Phocas users reported few problems with its software. Phocas BI received a score of 8.8 out of 10, QlikView a score of 5 out of 10.
BARC refers to Phocas as “a mature well-engineered product that empowers business users to perform a range of BI tasks with minimized requirement for tech support.” Phocas was built from the ground up to make traditionally complex business intelligence accessible and usable by everyone. For that to happen, we had to make BI simple, and create a software product that was practically indestructible. Today, one of the most common phrases we hear from customers is “Phocas is so easy to use.” And while we claim that Phocas can’t be broken, “customer feedback in The BI Survey over the past three years appears to confirm” that to be true.
Since Phocas receives such high scores for customer and product satisfaction, it comes with no surprise that it also ranks first in the Recommendation KPI. This category is based on how many users would recommend the product to others. In the BI Survey 16, Phocas received a score of 10 out of 10 while QlikView received 6.6 out of 10.
As BARC states, “Willingness to recommend a BI product to others, especially in such a crowded and competitive market, is a true gauge of customer satisfaction.”
Phocas has loyal customers across several vertical industries. It’s common for distributors, manufacturers or retailers that belong in similar user groups or trade associations to share their experiences with Phocas with their peers. In these situations, Phocas frequently becomes the BI software solution of choice, driven by word-of-mouth recommendations.
For example, Behler-Young is a member of Heating, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI), a major industry distributor organization. Several members of the organization started using Phocas and shared their experiences with other members. Following the recommendation of industry peers and the organization, Behler-Young decided to integrate Phocas into its infrastructure. Today, Phocas BI is the center of BI activity and the location for all its customer sales and product information.
BARC Research wrote, “In Phocas, we see both a vendor and a product that have been keeping customers happy for several years, leading to an excellent recommendation level.”
This KPI considers the ‘Business benefits’, ‘Project success’, ‘Price-to-value perception’ and ‘Project length’ KPIs. In each of these KPIs, Phocas outperforms QlikView, and when aggregated, Phocas’ scored an 8.3 out of 10 while QlikView scored a 6.9 out of 10.
This is one of the most important categories for Phocas as it details how Phocas is really benefiting customers’ businesses. The purpose of Phocas BI is to help our customers create value from their data so they can make more informed, intelligent business decisions. We want our customers to have confidence in the information they are aggregating and analyzing so that they can take action and produce consistently better business results.
For Luceco, an international manufacturer and distributor of high quality and innovative LED lighting products and wiring accessories, Phocas allowed sales reps to learn more about one customer’s buying habits and needs. They then built a plan of action, which led to a sales order worth more than £250,000 per year; business that paid for Luceco’s investment in Phocas many times over.
Bobby Awtrey, Director of I.T. Services for Dixie Plywood and Lumber Company, shared the value that Phocas BI has provided his company, “Our salespeople tell us that they have better access to data, which means they see more customers, and they spend less time because they have the information they need. Our bottom line has increased for a lot of reasons the last several years, one of which is that we now use a good BI tool like Phocas.”
The above details three KPIs where Phocas BI is outperforming QlikView, as well as other leading software brands.
