In the world's largest business intelligence user survey, BARC’s The BI Survey 16, more than 3,000 respondents rated their business intelligence tools. The well-known Tableau performed well but was outperformed on several KPIs by Phocas.
Implementing a business intelligence (BI) solution has its challenges. It can be difficult to determine which tool is best suited for your business, especially considering the number of new vendors entering the market each year.
BARC's The BI Survey 16 assesses 37 BI vendors by considering user responses to various questions. As BARC is an independent researcher, The BI Survey 16 is an credible resource to help determine what each vendor’s strengths are, and which BI tool is right for your business.
In The BI Survey 16, Phocas outperformed Tableau on a number of metrics including the three below.
The Recommendation KPI is based on how many users would recommend the product to others. On this KPI, Phocas scored 10 out of 10 and Tableau received 7.1 out of 10.
Customers continue to recommend Phocas time and time again. The recommendation metric highlights how much our users love Phocas. Phocas achieves the highest score among all products, with over 94% of respondents saying they would definitely or probably recommend Phocas. We suspect this is due to how easy Phocas is to learn and use, how it can reveal trends and its fast return on investment, often within days.
Automotive supplier, CoolDrive reports users going from a beginner to an intermediate level in about 30 minutes, and Johnston Companies discusses how Phocas uncovered new trends within five minutes that they were previously unaware of. To see how Phocas can benefit almost any job role, click here.
2. Customer satisfaction
The Customer Satisfaction KPI combines the ‘Product Satisfaction’, ‘Vendor Support’ and ‘Implementer Support’ KPIs. Phocas received a score of 8.8 out of 10, in comparision Tableau scored of 5.8 out of 10.
In a recent blog, we discussed the investments Phocas has made in creating a Customer Success Team to support our customers. It is extremely important to us that our customers are satisfied with the Phocas product and the support we provide. Many IT professionals have noted publicly that they are pleased with the service Phocas offers throughout the (very quick) implementation process. With our support, you do not have to spend time and resources working things out unassisted.
The Customer Satisfaction KPI also includes product satisfaction and vendor support outside of the implementation process. This reflects that after implementation, customers continue to love Phocas and our support resources. By choosing a vendor that has a great product, and is there to help you when you need it, you are well positioned to avoid issues with setting up and using the tool.
3. Chosen as standard
The Chosen as Standard KPI measures ‘on-site competitiveness’ or ‘prevalence rates in multi-product sites’. Phocas scored 10 out of 10 on this metric, whereas Tableau received a score of 4.6 out of 10.
The KPI highlights the likelihood of Phocas being chosen as the preferred solution with customers that have multiple solutions. This speaks to the fact that while Phocas is incredibly easy to use for non-technical users, it does not compromise on data quality or ability to identify complex insights.
Bassam Aboulhaf, financial controller at skincare manufacturer Deb Group, agrees. “We can easily drill up, down, and sideways to reveal the underlying cause of a trend or an issue that has been reported. This level of understanding and insight enables us to make decisions within an appropriate timeframe to correct problems or re-assess our strategies.”
With the opportunity to make queries, follow your chain of thought, see clear visualizations, slice and dice data, and a dynamic mobile offering, Phocas has something to offer any job role and any skill set. While some of our competitors with a larger market share can provide solutions that look incredibly fancy, we provide solutions that are down-to earth, easy, and practical. In the words of Sapphire Group’s Chief Financial Officer, Paul Hoad, Phocas offers the “biggest bang for your buck”.
