The BI Survey 19 is the world's largest and most comprehensive survey of business intelligence end-users in 2019. The survey offers a comparison of 36 leading BI vendors across 34 criteria or key performance indicators including business value, customer satisfaction, recommendation, and vendor support. This year, Phocas received 34 top rankings across three peer groups, and 49 leading positions.

In the survey Phocas and QlikSense were compared in two peer groups: ad hoc reporting focused products and data discovery, across 24 KPIs.

For this post, we will compare Phocas to QlikSense in three KPIs: Business Value, Ease of Use, and Customer Satisfaction.
Business Value: business intelligence software comparison
The Business Value KPI compares the implementation length to the business benefits gained from the BI solution. BARC found that Phocas was top-ranked for Business Value in all peer groups in this year’s BI Survey.
BARC summarized, “[Phocas} is familiar with its customers’ businesses and has experience in its core industries. Phocas customers say they achieve good implementation times and fast results. According to the survey results, the main benefits achieved include improved business decision-making, data quality and customer satisfaction as well as more efficient processes and results in BI-specific exercises.”
The average score for the Data Discovery Focused peer group was 7.0. QlikSense scored a 6.7 compared to Phocas’ score of 9.9.
"Phocas is very easy and intuitive to use. Its ability to analyze large amounts of data in a few simple clicks of the mouse is outstanding,” said Ozsale’s Product Category Manager.
An executive from Luceco also testified to Phocas’ value by stating, “When we first started using Phocas, we pulled data from our system to show a customer where they were increasing and decreasing orders - from that interaction with the customer, we captured an additional £250,000 per year worth of business.
Ease of use: business intelligence software comparison
Phocas has steadily increased Ease of Use ranking in The BI Survey over the last few years. Compared with Qlik Sense’s Data Discovery Focused peer-group score of 6.3, Phocas scored top ranks in all three peer groups for the second time in a row. BARC concluded, “All BI vendors strive to make their tools as simple and easy to use as possible, so it is doubly impressive that Phocas takes the top spot across the board. According to the vendor, the software is tailored for business users and designed to be fast to deploy, simple to learn and easy to use. Phocas sees even inexperienced business users become proficient within a short space of time, building visualizations and dashboards, drilling down into deeper levels of data, filtering and even administering the tool. This illustrates the simplicity, intuitiveness, and flexibility of the platform.”
CoolDrive Distribution agrees, stating: “We can get an immediate view on how our individual reps are performing with such ease and can look at direct comparisons and variances. Our 20 branch managers now sit down with our 40 sales reps and review progress.”
And Jurox reported, "Users can view data in many ways and save different queries to their favorites. People don’t need to request a new report when they want to compare what they see with something new or to answer their questions, they can do it themselves by building their own queries."
Customer satisfaction: business intelligence software comparison
This KPI combines price-to-value, recommendation, product satisfaction, vendor support and implementer support to calculate an aggregated measure for customer satisfaction. With impressive results in these KPIs, Phocas also scores highly in the customer satisfaction KPI.
As BARC explained, “The vendor’s high customer retention rate of 96-percent underlines the excellent customer experience it provides. A flexible licensing model, comprehensive support, experienced consultants, deep industry-specific knowledge and predefined content create a smooth user experience with few product-related problems and a high degree of customer and product satisfaction.”
Phocas ranks 9.3 in customer satisfaction compared to QlikSense’s score of 5.3.
The Finance Director of Antler, says, "I sometimes wonder how companies that don't have Phocas manage to run their business.” An executive from Morelli added, "If you need to analyze your data in a structured way, get Phocas and use it!"
